Re-posting Prince Harry's photo

In celebration of today's wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I'm re-posting my photo of Prince Harry which I took on June 26, during his visit to Intrepid as he greeted and gave support to wounded veterans from Great Britain and the U.S.
I've received almost 1200 hits to the original posting, 250 of them between yesterday and today.

Here's the link.  I said it before and I'll say it again .. He is such a charming, gracious man.  It was a pleasure and an honor to meet him, talk with him, and be the last person at Intrepid to shake his hand as he left.  Long live the Prince!

More Spring photos

Today was just delicious!  Sunny and 82 degrees, and so very welcome.  Took a ride over to the James McFaul Environmental Center in Wyckoff armed with 3 cameras.

Here's a shot from my Droid 2 Global smart phone.
A shot from my Nikon D300s ...
And one from the Nikon D40x, taken with the camera resting on the ground, pointing toward the sky.
On a beautiful day like this, any camera will do.  The rain moves in tomorrow.

Spring flowers .. finally

Our flowers had been in suspended animation for nearly a full week, just waiting for the warmth of the sun.  Finally, today, they had the courage to bloom.

Canada Goose in flight

Monday was a sunny day at James McFaul Environmental Center in Wyckoff and the Canada Geese were out in force.  This guy is about to come in for a landing in the pond.  The posture of this leg-banded bird reminds me of the Aflac duck, ungainly yet somehow graceful.
Below is a different bird, landing.  The wingspan of a Canada Goose ranges from 51 to 70".  These water-loving birds are monogamous, can weigh 12-14 pounds when fully grown, and have a lifespan of 10 to 24 years.
Both photos were shot with my Nikon D300s and Nikkor 70-200mm VRII 2.8 lens at 1/250s at f/6.3, ISO200.

Glen Rock Softball opening day

Saturday was opening day for all the teeball, softball and baseball teams in Glen Rock.  Over 900 students from kindergarten through 8th grade participated with their coaches and their families in a march from the Borough Hall to Hamilton School field.  Here are a few of the photos, the rest of which are posted here on

"Sharing the Arts" at Glen Rock High School

Last evening, I had the pleasure of photographing a free performance of "Peter Pan" produced by Sharing the Arts, a program that pairs special needs children with mentors, in this case, students of Glen Rock High School.  Danielle Basirico, a GRHS senior, brought the program to the school in 2010 as part of her Gold Award project for Girl Scouts.  A very touching and heartfelt performance!

Please click here to see photos of the children and their GRHS mentors, as published on the Glen Rock Patch site, as well as an article by Patch editor Joseph Gerace.

March: Women's History Month Celebrated at Intrepid

March was Women's History Month at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
"Salute to Women will honor the women who have served our nation – both in and out of military uniform – with a series of events designed to honor, educate and inspire the next generation of female leaders.

"Intrepid’s Salute to Women will kick off with the March 1st opening of a new exhibit:
Inspiration & Industry: American Women on the Home Front, an exhibition of WWI and WWII-era posters that showcases women’s roles in wartime efforts."

Here are a few of the many posters I photographed for Intrepid back in July, in preparation for the exhibit.
